Gateway Technical College breaks ground on facility expansion

Gateway Technical college just broke ground on the Foxconn advanced manufacturing training facility expansion of the S.C. Johnson  iMET Center.

School, government, and business leaders were in attendance for the event on Monday, October 22, as were numerous students. Speakers included Gateway President Bryan Albrecht, Fisk Johnson of S.C. Johnson, Alan Yeung of Foxconn, and Governor Scott Walker.

The speakers focused on the role Gateway will have in providing workers for rapidly changing manufacturing industries. With Industry 4.0, a concept of integrating advanced technology into the manufacturing process, already underway, Gateway looks to stay ahead of the curve by providing education and training geared to that technology. Yeung said this collaborative effort will,

“Create new solutions, new innovative ideas so that we can build a better future together.”

The new expansion nearly doubles the current size of the iMET center and will include new classrooms, offices, and laboratories. Sponsors also include Amatrol, Rockwell Automation, Siemans, Snap-on Inc. Trane Corp., and Fanuc America. Construction is scheduled to begin October 2018 and be completed by the beginning of the fall 2019 semester.
