Engineering Success: Karla Sanchez’s Journey from RUSD to Modine Manufacturing

Karla Sanchez’s path from Park High School to engineering showcases the impact of hands-on learning and local opportunities in Greater Racine County.

After graduating in 2019, Karla pursued engineering at UW-Platteville, initially majoring in Mechanical Engineering before discovering a stronger interest in Industrial Engineering. Her decision to switch majors was influenced by coursework and real-world experience gained through internships. One of the most impactful opportunities came from Modine Manufacturing in Racine, where she built critical skills that set her apart in the competitive engineering field.

Now a Test Engineer at Modine, Karla manages a laboratory dedicated to testing heat exchangers, contributing to innovative manufacturing solutions. Living and working in Greater Racine County allows her to stay connected to the community that supported her journey while building a successful career in a thriving industry. Looking ahead, she plans to continue growing in her role and may pursue an MBA in the future.

Karla attributes her college and career readiness to AP courses technical classes offered by Racine Unified School District (RUSD) and a Youth Apprenticeship at Modine Manufacturing. Her story highlights how Racine County’s strong educational and professional opportunities help students launch meaningful careers close to home.
