202-unit market-rate apartment project coming to Downtown Racine

DOWNTOWN RACINE'S FIRST NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN 20+ YEARS

City of Racine, WI – A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Feb. 17 for the Breakwater 233 Apartments, a 202-unit apartment building to be constructed at 233 Lake Avenue in the City of Racine, Wis.

Hovde Properties, a Madison-based developer, plans to construct a six-story building, consisting of ground-floor parking and five levels of living space. A planned green space will connect the building to the lakefront. Construction is expected to start in March.

The event was attended by Hovde Properties of Madison, which is responsible for the development, along with partners from the city, Johnson Financial Group and C.G. Schmidt Construction.

Alderman Jeff Coe, whose district includes the property, was on hand to praise the partnerships that made the development possible.

“I think it is one of the most exciting projects we’ve had in the downtown in many years,” he said.
