BizStarts Racine Builds Momentum with Another Successful Cohort
Local entrepreneurs are gaining essential tools and guidance through BizStarts Racine, a year-long business development program launched by RCEDC. Modeled after the successful BizStarts Milwaukee initiative, the program is designed to help individuals start or grow their businesses through a blend of expert-led education, personalized mentoring, and hands-on consulting.
A Proven Three-Phase Approach
The program kicks off with six weeks of in-person training led by local professionals who are passionate about supporting entrepreneurs. Each week, participants dive into key topics such as marketing, operations, financials, and funding strategies.
After completing this initial phase, participants move into Phase Two, where they are paired with experienced business mentors who offer one-on-one support to tackle real-time challenges and goals.
In Phase Three, entrepreneurs are matched with student consultants to collaborate on customized business projects like website development, pricing research, and business planning.
Another Successful BizStarts Cohort Completes Phase One
The program launched in September 2024 with a cohort of 12 entrepreneurs guided by Dr. Jason William Johnson. After completing Phase One, those participants moved into mentoring and began project work with Carthage College students.
Building on that momentum, a second cohort of 20 entrepreneurs wrapped up their in-person training at Gateway’s iMET Center in April 2025. This diverse group, which included both current business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, celebrated their graduation on April 18.
With mentorship now underway, the second cohort is continuing to build on the foundation they established during training and preparing to enter the final project phase this fall.
What's Next
Over the next several months, each entrepreneur will work closely with a mentor to identify next steps and strengthen their business strategy. In September, they’ll begin working with student consultants on implementation tasks—such as developing marketing plans, setting up financial systems, and refining pricing models.
