Building More Than Datacenters: Microsoft Invests in Mount Pleasant
From workforce development to watershed restoration, Microsoft’s presence boosts local opportunity and sustainability
Advancing careers, expanding STEM learning, and improving community ecosystems
Microsoft joined the Village of Mount Pleasant in 2023 and is building two datacenters that will support the company’s global cloud operations. Alongside construction, Microsoft is making meaningful investments that benefit Racine County residents, students, and the environment.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS DRIVEN BY MICROSOFT’S INVESTMENT:
GROWING LOCAL TALENT: HANDS-ON TRAINING FOR HIGH-DEMAND CAREERS
In partnership with Gateway Technical College, Microsoft launched Wisconsin’s first Microsoft Datacenter Academy, giving students hands-on training for high-demand tech careers. Scholarships, internships, and future job opportunities will support the region’s growing workforce.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: PROTECTING WATER & NATURAL RESOURCES
Microsoft is partnering with Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network (Root-Pike WIN) to advance watershed restoration projects across Racine and Kenosha counties, including work connected to Lamparek Creek in Mount Pleasant. These efforts promote long-term water quality and environmental health.
SUPPORTING EDUCATION & DIGITAL SKILLS: STEM, DIGITAL LITERACY, & UPSKILLING
Through collaborations with United Way of Racine County and other local partners, Microsoft is supporting STEM education, digital literacy programs, and adult upskilling efforts. These investments help strengthen the local workforce and expand access to technology-driven learning opportunities.
A LONG-TERM LOCAL PARTNER
Designed with sustainability goals—including being carbon negative, water positive, and zero waste by 2030—the new datacenters reflect Microsoft’s commitment to responsible growth. Beyond construction, the company continues to invest in programs that support youth, families, and workforce development.
Microsoft’s presence in Mount Pleasant is more than a datacenter project—it represents a long-term partnership focused on opportunity, environmental care, and community prosperity in Racine County.
