Woodman’s Opens New Racine Store as Regency Mall Redevelopment Accelerates
Woodman’s Expansion Adds 210 Jobs and Fuels Revitalization of the Former Mall Site
Woodman’s Markets has opened a new 240,000-square-foot store in Racine, marking its 20th location and its first new Wisconsin store since 2015. As reported by theMilwaukee Business Journal, the Janesville-based grocer purchased 21 acres of the former Regency Mall site in 2024 and developed the property into its newest full-service store.
The Racine location launches the first phase of the $120 million Regency Mall redevelopment, a project expected to create roughly $80 million in new property value. The next phase—Pritchard Park Place—will add 266 apartment units, with the first residents anticipated in early 2026, further supporting the area’s growth and customer base.
The City of Racine is contributing more than $39 million in tax-increment financing to support the redevelopment. The new 24-hour Woodman’s employs 210 staff members and expands the company’s presence between existing stores in Kenosha and Oak Creek. Woodman’s is also preparing to open its 21st store in Plainfield, Illinois, in 2026, and is planning a future redevelopment of a recently acquired outlet mall in Oshkosh.
About Woodman's
Woodman’s Markets began in 1919 as a small produce stand in Janesville, Wisconsin. Today, it has grown into a $2 billion, employee-owned company with 19 stores across Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Modern locations average 230,000 square feet—nearly 400 times the size of the original store—and offer grocery items, large liquor selections, online ordering with pickup and delivery, and gas stations with oil change services. Despite its growth, Woodman’s continues to focus on providing customers with the best prices, selection, and service, while remaining headquartered in Janesville.
