J. Jeffers & Co breaks ground on Belle City Square residential and commercial addition

Phase 4

by Jeremy Williamson

Racine, WI – J. Jeffers & Co., in partnership with City of Racine Mayor, Cory Mason, and CG Schmidt construction, recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the fourth phase of the catalytic transformation of Racine’s historic home to the former Horlick Malted Milk complex at 2100 Northwestern Avenue.

The fourth phase, coming in Summer 2024, expands J. Jeffers investment in developing the mixed-use residential, community and commercial property in the City of Racine.

This phase includes two residential buildings, a rehabilitation of what will become Carriage Row and a newly constructed building named The Summit. Phase Four includes six buildings total that will undergo historic rehabilitation for commercial use. In total, 375,000 square feet of combined residential and commercial space will be developed in this phase.

“It really is a small village they’re building there,” stated City of Racine Mayor, Cory Mason. “They’re really making it a space that’s going to be viable for people to live and work there.”

The Summit and Carriage Row residential buildings will offer residents a range of town home, flat, studio and 1-, 2- and 3- bedroom options. Terraces, club rooms, additional amenities and covered parking will also be provided. The rehabilitated buildings zoned for commercial use encourage growth for local businesses and offer residents of Belle City Square and greater Racine access to commercial, maker & light manufacturing, and retail opportunities.

“We are excited to expand the offerings of this community. The residential buildings at Belle City Square continue to satisfy a long-standing unmet need for additional housing in Racine, but we are excited to create a platform for economic growth for small businesses while amplifying the sense of community already underway at Belle City Square,” said Scott Schwebel, Chief Marketing Officer for J. Jeffers & Co.
