The Village of Union Grove and Sawall Development held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Granary residential and commercial development on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. The highly anticipated project had its ceremonial kick off at the site of the development, at Mill Avenue and Clark Street across from the American Legion Hall in Union Grove. Aimone stated
“This is the culmination of over 10 years of effort by the Village to bring in high quality residential and commercial development to the downtown area on a number of blighted parcels. We expect the new residents to support not only the new commercial development but also existing downtown commercial businesses.”
Art Sawall of Sawall Development indicated, that the project features 73 luxury market-rate apartments consisting of, 5 two-story buildings and one 1,800- 2,000 square foot retail/commercial building on MainStreet. The development is valued at an estimated $13 million. The spacious 1 and 2-bedroom apartments will feature 9 ft. ceilings, luxury vinyl plank flooring, solid core doors, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, enhanced LED lighting, front load washer/dryer, walk-in closets, individual balconies, exterior brick and attached garages. In addition, the development is next to the anticipated bicycle trail and includes picnic areas and walkability to downtown. Sawall stated
“This will be a unique and very attractive development for Union Grove. We will be starting construction immediately and expect the first buildings to be completed and have residents moving in by the middle of 2019.”
The retail/commercial building will house a fitness center, club/community room, full-time management office and a coffee shop with a drive-through.
Jenny Trick of the Racine County Economic Development Corporation stated
“Union Grove and RCEDC have enjoyed a long-term partnership that has focused on development and redevelopment opportunities in its community. We are thrilled to have had the chance to work with Sawall Development and the Union Grove team to accomplish this exciting development. We are equally thrilled to know that this project which was originally planned as a phased development, after the Foxconn announcement, will now be completed in one phase.”
