MEET THE TEAM: Q&A with Kate Walker

My role as Talent Recruitment Specialist is to assist employers in their efforts to retain and recruit talent. This is facilitated by creating awareness of our Greater Racine County Digital Recruitment Campaign, hosting events, and marketing efforts that showcase the many amazing quality of life opportunities in Racine County, but ultimately leads with our employers and the amazing job opportunities Racine County has to offer.

I enjoy spending time with my husband, Nathan, and two children, Bingham (7) and Tatum (3), and pet Chihuahua. I also love being active (weightlifting, running, biking, and hiking), enjoy traveling, and spending time with my friends.

I’ve spent the last 13 years in workforce and economic development roles and saw firsthand how important talent recruitment efforts were becoming for employers. I wanted to put all my program development and entrepreneurship experience into building a talent recruitment initiative for our employers. Knowing what all was involved with the position didn’t scare or concern me. I wanted to be part of the solution and help our community.

This team is amazing. I’ve had the opportunity to partner with RCEDC for several years but working side by side has been a true joy. We have world-class leadership and although we are a small team we are mighty!

I was in the role for a couple months and suggested putting together a Greater Racine County Talent Summit. I was blindly optimistic that we could pull off a full-day conference on talent-related issues with great speakers and relevant, engaging content. With strong partnership, we pulled off an amazing summit during my fourth month on the job. Although it wasn’t perfect, it was a success according to attendant survey results and served as an excellent platform to share information on talent-related issues. I am already looking forward to the 2nd Annual GRC Talent Summit for 2020!
